Muscle Development
There are so many different types of training and
different theories out there it can be confusing to
know the best way to train.
There are few key principles you must understand if you want to build muscle:
1) Overload & Progression-Your body is great at adaptation. If you place demands on your body (i.e. lifting weights) which it is unable to perform - Your body will adapt and grow stronger.
Progression is process of continuing to overload your muscles as your body adapts to training. This the fundamental pricinble to increasing muscle size.
2) Recovery - Your muscles do not grow in the gym. In the gym the muscle fibres are broken and ripped from lifting. During the recovery stage your body repairs itself and more importantly attempts to protect itself from future damage by building more muscle fibres.
3) Nutrition - Protein is used during the recovery stage to rebuild your muscles. Without the right building blocks your body will be unable to build muscle and therefore be unable to adapt and grow!
There are also the principles of intensity, type, time and frequency to take into account before embarking on any training regime.
You will see lots of contrasting theory's out there and many different styles of programmes. As long as the 3 main principles outlined above are incorporated, you will not go far wrong.
